Frequently Asked Questions
HOW LONG WILL THIS TAKE?
The length of each procedure varies according to a myriad of factors. Please inquire before the day of your appointment as to the anticipated length of your visit. It is always our goal to run on time.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD I HAVE MY TEETH CLEANED?
The only way to accurately answer this question is to first examine your teeth and gums and assess their existing condition. The doctor and hygienist will then prescribe an interval that is appropriate for you, regardless of any insurance limitations.
DO YOU DO LASER (IN-OFFICE) WHITENING?
No. Take-home whitening is a more controllable, comfortable, affordable and longer-lasting method. Laser (in-office) whitening still requires follow-up home treatment; otherwise the teeth will regress rapidly.
I HATE GOING TO THE DENTIST BECAUSE I’M SCARED — HELP!
We pride ourselves on providing a warm, caring, relaxed environment for our patients. Dr. Stephens will assess and discuss your fears and anxieties, and adapt your treatment methods as necessary. We utilize a variety of techniques to alleviate stress, including headphones, nitrous oxide, oral conscious sedation and complete sedation by an anesthesiologist.
DO YOU TREAT CHILDREN?
Yes. We enjoy taking care of your entire family. If Dr. Stephens determines that a child’s dental experience will be enhanced at a Pediatric dental office, he will discuss this with you and make an appropriate referral.
WHAT TREATMENT DO YOU REFER OUT?
Dr. Stephens prefers to send you to a specialist if you require a root canal, complicated oral surgery, braces, or gum and implant surgery. The practitioners who perform these services, day in and day out, are experts.
DOES DR. STEPHENS DO IMPLANTS?
Yes. The implant will be placed by an oral surgeon or a gum specialist. Dr. Stephens will coordinate with the specialist as needed. After the placement healing is complete, Dr. Stephens will take impressions and place the final restoration(s).
DO YOU DO COSMETIC DENTISTRY?
Yes, all phases of cosmetic dentistry. Please see before and after photos of some of Dr. Stephens’ actual cases on this website.
DO YOU TREAT THE DISABLED?
Yes, we are able to handle patients with disabilities. We have a wheelchair in the office, and Dr. Stephens has extensive experience with the mentally and physically handicapped.
MAY I SPEAK DIRECTLY WITH THE DOCTOR ABOUT AN ISSUE OR CONCERN?
Yes, even if you are not yet a patient of record. Dr. Stephens has a busy schedule, but will come to the phone when possible. If not, then let the staff know when you will be available and where you can be reached. We will give you an approximate time that the doctor will be able to return your call.
